Einige Schritte weiter von Omonoia befindet sich der Kotzia Platz, wo die Bauarbeiten für ein Parkhaus bedeutsame archäologische Funde zutage förderten.

Der Platz ist jetze völlig modernisiert und lässt nur an einigen Stellen Einblick in jene Vergangenheit.

Some steps near the Omonoia square there is the Kotzia square, where the excavations brought to the surface many important parts of the ancient city walls.

The whole square is today completely modernised and allows only some views totheseancient parts.

In unmittelbarer Nähe von Kotzia-Platz verläuft die Evripidou Strasse mit ihren Hunderten von Kleingeschäften. Sehr volkstümlich und auch sehr verkehrsreich, wo man günstige aber nicht unbedingt hochqualitative Ware bekommt.

In next vicinity to the Kotzia square we will find in the Evripidou street the crowdy and picturesque small traders shops and lots of people searching for some cheap bargain.

Stoa in ihrer neugriechischen Bedeutung ist eine überdachte Verbindung zwischen zwei Strassen, die meistens ducrh ein Gebäude hindurch geht. Sie ist nur für Fussgänger und voll mit Geschäften. Athen ist die Stadt der Stoas!

Stoa, in its new-greek meaning, is a connection between two streets, going straight through a building. It is only for pedestrians and usually full of shops of every kind. Athens is the city of the Stoas. You will find them everywhere!

Bevor das königlige Schloss in das heutige Parlament am Syntagma umfunktioniert wurde, war hier der Platz für Debatten. Das Gebäude ist heute Museum für neugriechische Geschichte. Sehr viele Exponate aus den Revolutionsjahren und danach befinden sich hier und der Parlamentssaal ist wirklich sehenswert.

Before the earlier Royal Palace at Syntagma Square changed into Parliament, it was here the place of the parliamentary disputes. The building is now used as a museum of the modern greek history (well the last 200-300 years) and has very many exhibits from the revolutionwars. The parliamentary chamber is indeed worth seeing!.

Der General Kolokotronis, eine der führenden Personen der Revolutionszeit von 1821-1828. Das Gebäude im Hintergrund ist das eben erwähnte Alte Parlament.

Nicht sehr weit vom Syntagma ist das eleganteste Viertel von Athen, Kolonaki. Sehr viele Modegeschäfte, feine Cafés, elegantes Publikum and natürlich auch entsprechende Preise!.

Not very far from the Syntagma Square you can visit the most elegant quarter of Athens, Kolonaki. Very many fashion shops, nice Cafés and restaurants of course with corresponding prices.

Ein Kompex, der hauptsächlich Ausstellungen beherbergt. Der Bau sehr vieler Athener Gebäude war früher nur durch grosszügige Spenden von reichen Griechen möglich. Zappeion stammt von den Geldern von Evangelos Zappas, der auch den Neubau des Panathenaischen Stadions finanzierte.

The erection of very many of the old Athenian buildings was only possible by the donations of rich greeks living abroad, like Arsakis, Varvakis etc. Zappeion reminds at Evangelos Zappas, whose contributions made also possible the reconstruction of the Panathenaic Stadium.

Direkt neben dem Zappeion befindet sich diese Oase inmitten im Verkehr und Lärm von Athen. Sehr beliebt bei den Athenern als Zwischenpause, für ein kurzes Nickerchen oder zum Entspannen. Auch für Leute mit Kindern sehr zu empfehlen.

Just near Zappeion begins the National Garden, earlier Royal Garden, which is one of the few green places in the City Center, where you can relax a little bit from the frantic pace! Highly recommended also for people with children.

Wie gesagt, eine Rekonstruktion am gleichen Platz, wo sich das antike Stadion befand. Es wurde für die ersten Olympischen Spiele der Neuzeit 1896 benutzt. Heutzutage nicht mehr für Sportveranstaltungen einsetzbar, dafür aber für Konzerte, Kundgebungen etc. Im Hintergrund der Lykabettos-Hügel.

Actually a reconstruction of the ancient Panathenaic Stadium at the same place. It was used for the first Olympic Games of the modern times. Because of its sharp bends it is not suitable for modern competitions. Today it is used for concerts, political meetings etc. In the background you can see the Lykabettos Hill.
