Zurück zum Syntagma Platz kann man weitergehen in Richtung Monastiraki Platz, wo der Flohmarkt ist, und zur Athinas Strasse, wo man die Markthallen findet. Verfolge den Weg in dieser Karte von Athen. Going back to Syntagma square you can continue down to the Monastiraki square with its flea market, and to the Athinas Streetwith the market halls. | Der Monastiraki Platz Jeder Athen-Besucher wird mal den Flohmarkt dort besuchen. Der Name bedeutet "kleines Kloster" und stammt von einem früheren Bau, der hier stand. Von hier aus kann man in die Hephaistou Str.(Flohmarkt) gehen, an ihrem Ende einen Blick in die Agora werfen, und entweder zur Plaka dann gehen, oder über die Pandrosou Str. zum Syntagma zurück. |

The Monastiraki square Actually every visitor of Athens will come to Monastiraki and its flea market! The name means "little monastery" and goes back to an earlier one being on this place. From here on you can follow the Hephaistou Str. (the flea market) down to the ancient Agora, you can turn back along the Pandrosou Str. (the souvenirs street) to the Syntagma Square, or you can go to the left to Plaka and uphills to Akropolis. |

| Die Hephaistou Strasse Wie gesagt, hier kann man wirklich ALLES finden, von Büchern und Schuhen bis Schränken und Musikinstrumenten. Freilich Feilschen ist sehr zu empfehlen! Jeden sonntag morgen wird neue Ware angeliefert, weshalb es auch besonders betriebsam dann hier ist. |

The Hephaistou street As already said you can find here everything, from used shoes to steering wheels of ships, from used books to furniture and metal works! It is of course highly recommended to bargain over the prices! Every Sunday morning arrive new goods, so if you are early enough here, you can got some real snip here! |

Before the market halls To the right of Monastiraki Square (previous picture) begins the Athenas Street, a very busy one. On this street are also the Market Halls, actually the flesh and fish markets. Not just place for sensitive people, very noisy, not just well-smelling! Before the Halls lots of bags with every sort of beans, lenses and other pulses, as well as cheese, nuts, dried fish and greek sweets. |

In the market halls I often wonder about the lots of fishes and crustaceans delivered here day by day, as I hardly can believe that the Aegean Sea still has so many of them! But that is obviously the case! |

The new National Bank Behind the Market Halls, at the Kotzia square there is the new building of the National Bank. An important fact is the integration of the ancient Athens walls in its fundaments. |
