Nach Anafiotika an der Ost-Seite der Akropolis, erreicht man bald das alte Viertel Plaka, eine sehr malerische Gegend am Nordhang. Kleine Häuser, enge Gassen, überall Tavernen, wo Athener und Touristen fröhliche Abende verbringen. Es ist ein Zauber hier unsichtbar, als ob die alten Götter noch gegenwärtig wären! Um Dir die Gegend vorzustellen schaue Dir die folgende Karte von Plaka an. Wichtig: Um die richtigen Fotos zu sehen, bitte auf das gewünschte Kleinbild klicken. Die Fotos öffnen sich dann in einem extra Fenster. Wegen der Foto-Qualität sind allerdings diese um die 100kB, d.h. es kann etwas dauern bis das Foto erscheint. Bitte dann um Geduld. |
After the Anafiotika at the east slope of the Acropolis you arrive to Plaka, the lovely old city part. Small houses, narrow streets and lots of taverns, full of athenians and tourists. It is a certain magic all over this area, as if the ancient gods were still present also participating at the joyful evenings! To realise the route just have a look in the Map of Plaka. Important: For viewing the original photos just click on the corresponding ones and you will get them in a new window. Because of quality reasons the last ones are about 100 kB in size, i.e. it can take some time till they appear in the window. Please be patient. |
| Plaka-Überblick Es ist nicht genau bekannt, was der Name bedeutet, aber es wird meistens gemeint, es stammt vom Wort "Pliaka" ab, das "alt" bedeutet. Die meisten Häuser haben hier nicht mehr als ein Stockwerk. Und mitten in der Plaka immer wieder Altertümer, wie hier die Reste von Hadrians Bibliothek und der Turm der Winde. |

Overview of Plaka It is not exactly known what does "Plaka" mean, but the most accepted explanation is the dialect word "pliaka" meaning "old". All over Plaka you will find only houses with no more than one floor. On this picture you can see just in the middle of it the rest of the Hadrian´s Library and the Tower of the winds. |

| Eine Plaka-Strasse Geht man von Anafiotika langsam hinunter, wird man immer wieder durch solche verträumte Strassen kommen, wo man nicht entscheiden kann, ob man den Anblick als "wunderbar" oder als "Ruine" bezeichnen sollte! |

Plaka balcony Take your time on walking through Plaka! Leave the usual touristic streets and have a look at the side streets, where you can enjoy such nice old houses with the typical Plaka balconies. |

Plaka houses At Plaka you have everywhere this side by side of ancient and new city parts. On this picture you can see some rests of ancient houses at the boundaries to the ancient Agora. |
| Wandmalereien An vielen Stellen in der Plaka wirst Du solche bemalten Steine und Wände entdecken. Sie stammen vom Maler Savakis, der in der Plaka seine Werkstatt hat und auf dieser Weise versucht, ihren Charakter aufrecht zu erhalten. |

Wall paintings At many places on Plaka you will find paintings just on the stones and walls. They are works of the painter Savakis, living also at Plaka and having there his painter studio. |
| Enge Gassen Obwohl es sehr anstrengend teilweise ist, diese Steilen hochzuklettern, sie sind es die den malerischen Charakter der Plaka ausmachen! Halte durch und Du wirst ganz oben manche Stellen finden, die Dir die Mühe belohnen werden. |

Narrow streets Although it is very tiring to climb the streets of Plaka, they are exactly by it so picturesque! Keep on and you will find some of the nicest places just at the top. |
| Taverne "Nefeli" Nur einige Stufen von der höchsten Stelle, dem Rundgang um die Akropolis, entfernt findet man diese wunderbare Taverne, die meiner Ansicht nach eine der besten der Plaka ist und meistens nicht so überfüllt! Nur für viele Leute ist der Weg bis dort oben zu beschwerlich. |

Tavern "Nefeli" A few steps before reaching the roundwalk of the Acropolis you will pass the tavern "Nefeli". To my opinion one of the best in Plaka and usually not very crowded! It is too tiring for the most people to climb over there. |
