Eine ehemalige Marienkirche, die in der Besatzungszeit 1458 n.Chr. in Moschee umgewandelt wurde. Heute lagern darin neue Funde aus der römischen Agora. Davor die Tische einer der zahlreichen Plaka-Tavernen, die in der warmen Jahreszeit die Strassen belegen.

The most of the taverns of Plaka place their tables just on the street during the warm season. On this picture we are before a former Maria-church being changed to a mosque (Fetiye mosque) during the turkish occupation on 1458 A.C.

Der Name bedeutet "Koranschule" und sie muss sogar eine recht bedeutsame gewesen sein! In späteren Zeit war dahinter ein Gefängnis und Exekutions-Platz! Sie befindet sich in der Nähe der Fetiye Moschee gegenüber.

At the opposite site of the Fetiye Mosque you can see the rest of a Medresse, an earlier Koranic school. In later times it was a prison and execution place there!

Etwas weiter vom Medresse in der oberen Plaka findet man die bekannte Taverne "Psaras" d.h. Fischer auf einem kleinen, geschlossenen Platz mit Tischen auf den Treppen-Stufen.

A bit further in the upper-Plaka there is the well-known and recommended tavern "Psaras" i.e. fisherman with its tables all over the steps.

Der Name bedeutet "Weinranke" und sie ist fast ein Geheimtip wegen ihres persönlichen Charakters. Die Tische stehen gezwängt fast auf den Treppen! Der Besitzer, Herr Makis, ein richtiger Philosoph, nimmt seine Aufgabe für seine Kunden sehr ernst!

The name does mean vine tendril and it is one of the most recommended ones because of the very personal character there. Its tables are almost middle on the steps of the street. The patron Mr. Makis is a true philosopher and he takes very seriously his patronage.

Am späten Nachmittag kann man einen Spaziergang hier entlang wirklich geniessen. Sicher, sie ist eine komplett touristische Strasse, aber niemand swird ihr einen eigenen Charakter und Charme absprechen können!

In the late afternoon you will enjoy to walk along the Adrianou street again and again. Surely, it is a completely touristic area but nevertheless has its own charme and attractivity.

Eine weitere ebenfalls sehr bekannte touristische Strasse in Plaka, beginnend an der grossen Mitropolis Kathedrale und endend am Monastiraki Platz.

Another also very well-known touristic area is the Pandrosou street connecting the Mitropolis square with the Monastiraki.

Je später der Abend, desto mehr schöne Plätze wird man in Plaka entdecken können! Überall Gelegenheit Für Essen und Trinken und Unmengen von Geschäften. Ausgerechnet auf diesem Photo ist es kein Restaurant sondern ein Kunstgeschäft und sogar ein sehr empfehlenswertes!

The later the evening, the more nice places will you discover at Plaka. Everywhere possibilities for a coffee or for diner. And lots of shops. This one is not a restaurant but an arts shop and offering indeed quality handicrafts.

Und die Athener nutzen natürlich jede Gelegenheit aus um einander in einer Taverne zu treffen und Spass miteinander zu haben!

Ja was sehe ich denn da! Das sind ja meine alten Schulkameraden! Wie die Zeit vergeht!

And the Athenians use every possible chance to meet and sit together at a tavern and have fun.

Oh, how nice! The guys here are my old classmates! Time just flies!

So wie man in der Taverne sitzt, kann man abends die beleuchtete Akropolis über der Plaka geniessen! Und wenn man von der Ferne lauscht, sind die Töne von Plaka, die Musik und der Gesang nicht zu überhören.

And sitting at the tavern you can enjoy over your head the look of the illuminated Acropolis!

On listening from the far you can hear the music from the taverns and the sounds of loughing people.

Und so sieht die bekannte Strasse und ihre Nebenstrassen am Tag aus. Also ausser T-Shirts, Sandalen, Taschen und Kram kannst Du dort sehr wohl auch Juwelen von guter Qualität und sehr schönem Design kaufen. Du kannst beruhigt sein, das Gold ist echt, aber feilsche kräftig!

And so does look like the mentioned Adrianou street during the day hours. Well, except of cheap T-shirts and sandals you can also find in the jewelry shops some very good pieces with wonderful design! And be sure, it is not counterfeit gold, but be ready for haggling!

Genau am Anfang der Pandrosou Strasse und auf dem Mitropolis Platz befindet sich einladend das nette Café "Metropol".
